Whether your new to following the Autoimmune Protocol (AIP), or the Paleo diet, and wondering what you can eat or just looking for inspiration AIP/ Paleo specific cookbooks come in handy. All those gorgeous photos and possibilities! They get me back in the kitchen every time. Plus, if your not familiar with an ingredient, or how to prepare it, you can usually find a recipe or two to try.
Despite the AIP being a fairly new protocol there are a growing number of AIP specific cookbooks available. I have not tried every single one out there but, of those I have cooked from, the following titles are my favorites. They pretty much live on my counter:
The Autoimmune Paleo Cookbook by Mickey Trescott
85 AIP Breakfasts a community cookbook edited by Eileen Laird (currently only available as an ebook)
The Alternative Autoimmune Cookbook: Eating for all Phases of the Paleo Autoimmune Protocol by Angie Alt
The Healing Kitchen by Alaena Haber and Sarah Ballantyne
While general Paleo cookbooks will contain some ingredients that are not fully AIP compliant plenty of recipes will be ok if you make a few changes e.g. leave an ingredient out; substitute another AIP ingredient, or maybe you have been able to reintroduce those foods. The same goes for Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD) specific cookbooks. There are also a surprising number of recipes that just happen to be AIP compliant out there. For example, my family has always enjoyed roasted chicken and root veggies with herbs and I can still enjoy it with the whole family. In the general Paleo and SCD category these are my favorites:
Eat Well Feel Well by Kendall Conrad
The Ancestral Table By Russ Crandall
Paleo Eats by Kelly Bejelly
Nom Nom Paleo Food For Humans by Michelle Tam and Henry Fong
Beyond Bacon Paleo Recipes that Respect the Whole Hog by Mathew McCarry and Sarah Toth
I’d love to hear from you. Are you familiar with these titles? What are your favorite cookbooks?
